Clock: My Inspiration. My Idea.

Clock is something which I’ve made. People know this and some have thanked me for making it. But, I have had people ask me why I have even made it in the first place. Some people have questioned why I even considered making something so useless. The main reason is productivity.

In a world where we think looking at pictures of cats is productive, we do need applications to get us back to work in a very fun way. Clock’s UI is welcoming and inviting. It’s no longer “generic” it no longer fits a strict design scheme which is planned for everyday use, which makes using the desktop a rather boring and bland experience.

On the other hand, I see where people are coming from. A Clock is hardly productive, nor is it hardly useful at all. Some people now would argue my argument is moot, however, it proves that we don’t need a web browser to view a computer - we don’t need to have one box to do all tasks, similar to what Chrome wants us to do. Chrome is alright and all, however, it’s approach to the desktop becoming ENTIRELY web-based is just… wrong to me.

We’ve all seen recently what HTML5 can do. It’s a very powerful platform we can use to make applications on the web, if it’s on the web, it means that we need an internet connection to view it. Wait . Let me get this straight, we’re trying to push out computers to developing countries, with probably very limited internet access, yet, we’re suddenly expecting every computer user to be on the web? I don’t want to sound at all like I’m anti-developing countries, but they probably don’t even know Windows 8 is out, yet alone use it.

On that note, I like what Windows is doing with Windows 8. A Metro application is HTML5 (or it can be) which is a very good approach to take, especially HTML5’s growing popularity and usage. I like Metro’s style, we get too picky as users as to what we fancy, we fancy to have the smoothest window edges, the fanciest of window animations. It’s unneeded. It’s eye candy we do not need. Metro goes back to the basics and allows us to see the desktop in a simple way again. We need this. We all SO need this.

P.S: Thank you all for 30,000 hits in January and I hope you all had a very good starting month to 2013, let’s make February rock!

P.P.S: I’ve not proofread this. Please forgive me. I’ll proofread next time!

New Web Home Page

I’ve went and updated my main page, there’s finally some decent content on my website. There are some more links in the top bar and the blog is now updated (or rather, has been updated as of a few days ago).

What are your thoughts on the new website? Also, what would you suggest for me to change or add/remove?

Yes, Okay, I do have to admit the blog footer is a bit messed up at the moment, but I can also fix that soon.

Web Development Videos Coming rather soon.

Today I feel tempted to start making Web Design/Development Videos to help those who want to start web design and development using PHP.

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts on the new Google look

Recently, Google has attempted to change Youtube to more of an Android-like style. I have to say I quite like it. The Android style is certainly pretty and defines a real brand for Google.

I have to say, the colours under tabs or menu is very nice, more than what I expected, I’d love to see this look in Chrome, with colours at the top of the tab, rather than bottom. It gives me the feel of a unified look, as I have a Nexus 7 tablet with their Android 4.1 “Jellybean” image. I now feel what experience I get on my tablet has come to their web services.

Now, I’m all for simple designs. Just look at my homepage. It’s very simple and easy to say it’s one of the most simple designs I have done to date. Yes, it’s got more text, than before, yes it looks full, but I actually like my homepage more than anything right now.

Well done Google, I love your new branding.
